Kewa has taken an exciting step forward in his employment journey, recently beginning a work experience placement at Wildlife HQ with support from the STEPS Work Mates Program. With an NDIS goal of gaining steady employment, Kewa has long expressed a strong interest in working with animals, and the opportunity arose to gain hands-on experience while exploring his passion.
Kewa embraced the Wildlife HQ experience with enthusiasm. From day one, he has immersed himself in learning new skills and contributing to the daily tasks that keep the animals happy and healthy. His responsibilities include helping to clean their enclosures and preparing their food, and one of his favourite parts of the role has been working with the meerkats.
This work experience placement is already proving to be an invaluable stepping stone for Kewa. Not only is he gaining confidence and independence, but he is also developing the workplace habits and routines that will support him long-term as a working professional.
Kewa’s journey is a great example of how tailored supports and meaningful opportunities can empower participants to develop their skills, discover their strengths and interests, and move closer to achieving their employment goals.
