STEPS Townsville Education and Training participants Hernan and Ly have taken full advantage of their nationally recognised qualification and started their own business in the disability support sectors.
After finishing their CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support course and gaining paid employment at Arcare North Shore, the two took a bold step and launched 3BearCare, a compassionate disability support service and registered NDIS provider.
Josh Guinea, a STEPS Individual Support Trainer in Townsville, said the couple were highly engaged in class, demonstrating their eagerness to learn and commitment to the course.
“Hernan and Ly actively participated in every lesson, and that dedication set a positive example for their peers,” Josh said.
“They were both part of our October 2023 class. When you think of how much they’ve achieved since the start of their course, it’s nothing short of inspiring. I’m incredibly proud of them and it just goes to show that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams and work towards new goals.”
Hernan joined the course looking to make a major career change, while his partner Ly embraced the opportunity to upskill after only two months of living in Australia. Their journeys led them STEPS, using their combined willingness to learn and resilience to forge their own fulfilling careers together.
The two secured employment at Arcare North Shore, a nursing home, during their STEPS-appointed work integrated learning placement. They then transferred to an Arcare facility in Brisbane.
From there, Hernan and Ly made the decision to start their own Disability Support business. This move has expanded their career horizons, opening them up to new opportunities for personal and professional development.
Josh said that Hernan and Ly’s journey shows the incredible potential of STEPS’ Education and Training programs and hopes their story encourages other individuals to pursue new opportunities.
“With the right training and support, anyone can achieve their goals and make a meaningful impact on their community,” Josh said.
“Without the accessible training, workplace integrated learning and sense of community to lean on, it can be extremely difficult for people to take a chance and commit to a course. That’s why we do everything we can at STEPS to facilitate these opportunities and give our participants our full support.”
The couple have since expanded 3BearCare to Townsville, branching the business between their old hometown and current Brisbane home.
Amazing work, Hernan and Ly! The Townsville team is incredibly proud of you both, and we wish you and 3BearCare future success.
