Disability Employment Services
Disability Employment Services (DES) is a government initiative aimed at providing people with a disability extra support to find work and maintain employment longer term.
STEPS provides Disability Employment Services throughout Australia. Our team of expert employment consultants have been helping people with a disability, illness and injury achieve their employment goals for over 30 years.
How can Disability Employment Services help me?
When you register for Disability Employment Services with STEPS, you will meet with your dedicated employment consultant who will work with you one-on-one to understand your needs and goals. From there your employment consultant will help you develop a plan that will provide you with your stepping stones towards employment.
Some of the things you can expect help with include:
- Help with writing your resume
- Job search training and support
- Interview preparation
- Goal setting
- Identifying areas for training and skills development
- Support after you find work to help you succeed in your new role
Who is eligible for Disability Employment Services?
You may be eligible for Disability Employment Services if you meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Have a disability, injury, or health condition
- Are aged at least 14 but have not yet attained the Age Pension qualifying age
- Are at or above the minimum legal working age in your state or territory
- Are an Australian resident or eligible Visa holder
- Are not studying full time (unless you’re an Eligible School Leaver); and
- Have a valid Employment Services Assessment (ESAt) or Job Capacity Assessment (JCA) with a recommended work capacity of 8 or more hours per week; and
- Are not working at or above your assessed work capacity
Who is eligible for Disability Employment Services?
You may also be eligible to access free Disability Employment Services if you are an Eligible School Leaver, meet the criteria as a Special Class Client, or qualify for Work Assist. How to access Disability Employment Services with STEPS
If you are eligible for Disability Employment Services you can either register directly with STEPS or ask Centrelink to refer you to STEPS.
If you are with another Disability Employment Services provider and want to change to STEPS we can help you. Our friendly and professional employment consultants will step you through and make the process easy.
