The STEPS team in Alice Springs recently hosted an event in celebration of the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program.

STEPS’ SEE Program gives locals the opportunity to develop their literacy, numeracy, language and digital skills.

The event on Friday 15 November saw several staff, participants and stakeholders come together to celebrate the program. STEPS’ Alice Springs Business Coordinator, Leckie Ryan, said that the entire team was incredibly proud of the event’s success.

“We had a great turnout from all sectors across the Alice Springs community,” Leckie said.

“Two of our participants attended and spoke with our guests, which gave them real insight into how our SEE Program works and how it helps prepare our participants for employment or further training.”

The attending participants had prepared large cut-out photo frames for staff members and guests to take pictures with, decorated to represent their learning journey and STEPS branding.

Leckie said that when the participants saw their guests interacting with their frame creations, they were noticeably proud.

“You could see a sense of joy just wash over their faces,” Leckie said.

“It’s just one little example of why the SEE Program is so important. Our participants have the opportunity to learn and grow in an incredibly supportive environment, and they have these classes and events to boost their confidence and help them foster new connections in their community. I feel very lucky to be part of the process and see the participants throughout their individual journeys.”

The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many asking when there would be another event. STEPS has big plans to further expand their SEE Program and continue bringing these opportunities for community connection and personal growth to individuals across Australia.

Prospective participants are encouraged to visit the SEE webpage to find out more about the program and apply. New participants can begin their journey immediately, with flexible options to find the learning structure that suits them best.
