STEPS Trainers in Palmerston have been nominated for Community Group of the Year at the City of Palmerston’s 2025 Australia Day Awards.

The Awards recognise the contributions of Palmerston community members, both individuals and groups, in building a better and brighter future for the region, embodying their mission to make Palmerston ‘A Place for People.’

The STEPS Palmerston team has been nominated due to their numerous services and efforts to uplift and connect with the greater community, from volunteering with local organisations and businesses to providing training opportunities to Education and Training program participants.

“I am so incredibly proud of our entire Palmerston team and everything they have achieved,” said Cassie Stanley, STEPS’ Executive Manager of Education and Training.

“Our point of difference has always been our community impact and comprehensive support, so this recognition means the world to our hardworking team. This nomination is absolutely a reflection of the amazing community that STEPS has built in the area, as well as the national STEPS community, and the connections we make with one another.”

The Palmerston team has taken part in many local volunteer programs and projects, from the Harvest Corner Community Garden to City of Palmerston Council events and partnerships with Workforce Australia providers.

“Every activity that our Education and Training participants take part in improves their practical skills and helps them build powerful connections with their peers and other members of the Palmerston community,” Ms Stanley said.

“This nomination will help us reach even more people who just need the right opportunity and the right support to reach their goals and discover their full potential. I am very excited about the future of STEPS, both in Palmerston and on a national level.”

The City of Palmerston’s Australia Day Ceremony will take place on Sunday 26 January 2025 at the Palmerston Recreation Centre. The event is free and open to the public.
