STEPS participants enjoy egg-cellent Easter celebration

STEPS Community Support and STEPS Pathways College teamed up to throw a huge party in Caloundra, celebrating Easter with their friends, trainers and support workers.

The Community Support team were excited to put together an Easter celebration made specifically for people with a disability and autism. STEPS Pathways College students were invited to join the fun, giving everyone the opportunity to meet new people and practice their social skills in a familiar and supportive environment.

The day kicked off with an Easter egg hunt around STEPS Café on George’s surrounding lawns and gardens. Some participants shared that it was their first time taking part in an Easter egg hunt, which made the experience even more rewarding.

Once the hunt was over, it was time to let creativity take centre stage. There was an Easter hat decorating activity, followed by a fashion show that quickly evolved into a parade, then a spontaneous conga line.

The dancing didn’t stop there, as two different groups stepped into the spotlight to perform dance routines, encouraging participants and students to join. After a few practise runs, everyone was confidently busting a move, cheered on by their peers and trainers in the audience.

Last but certainly not least, the Easter Bunny made an appearance, lighting up the party with smiles and cheer.

Forming friendships and gaining social confidence are key personal goals for many STEPS Community Support participants and STEPS Pathways College students. For some, this was the only Easter celebration they were able to attend, showing the significance of creating safe and accessible spaces for people with a disability and autism.

The STEPS Community Support team were proud to see their participants connecting with others, bonding through shared experiences and interests, and enjoying a genuine sense of belonging. It was our best Easter celebration yet, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
