Local culinary talent will be showcased at the 2023 STEPS Grand Winter Ball after the charity recently announced a partnership with the Sunshine Coast Function Centre for this year’s highly anticipated event.

Executive head chef Luke Thomas brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this year’s ball, having trained in Brisbane and gained international exposure across various continents, including Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Mr Thomas has honed his skills in renowned establishments, including prestigious five-star hotels in the UK, such as the Orchraney Resort and Gleneagles in Scotland, where he contributed to Andrew Fairlie’s two Michelin-starred restaurant.

Returning to Brisbane, Mr Thomas made his mark at the award-winning Caxton Hotel, winning the QHA Restaurant of the Year three times in five years. Having now work at the Caloundra RSL for ten years, he has found immense joy in his craft and is excited to bring his culinary passion to the STEPS Grand Winter Ball.

“When I first heard of STEPS, I was immediately drawn to their commitment to the community,” Mr Thomas said.

“Having had the opportunity to work closely with Alastair McLeod for the previous two winter balls, I witnessed the grand scale of the event and the joy it brings to everyone involved. It was an incredible experience.”

For this year’s ball, Mr Thomas has curated a menu that perfectly complements the winter ambiance.

“I’m looking forward to the sense of completion once it’s all done. There are nerves that come with such a significant event, but the satisfaction and achievement afterward are unparalleled,” he said.

With a belief in the power of simplicity and attention to detail, Mr Thomas aims to create a memorable dining experience for all attendees of the STEPS Grand Winter Ball.

STEPS managing director Carmel Crouch said this year’s ball will be made even more exceptional with the addition of Mr Thomas.

“For this year’s STEPS Grand Winter Ball, we were determined to infuse a distinctive local touch into the event,” Ms Crouch said.

“We wanted to showcase the remarkable talent present in our community and bring forth an authentic experience that truly represents the essence of our region. I know Luke will bring just that.”

Tickets to the event are almost sold out but are still available at thestepsgrandwinterball.com.au
