The Five STEPS Housing Program is designed to help you build the skills and confidence to secure and maintain a rental property, whether you’re renting for the first time or want to be a better tenant in a competitive market.
From paying rent and getting your bond back to inspections and home safety, we cover it all.
The Five STEPS Housing Program helps you get ready to rent and look after a home.
The program provides real-life skills to help you be a successful tenant, step by step. You will understand how renting works, what landlords expect, how to take care of your home, and more.
STEPS is hands-on and supportive. You won’t be sitting and reading all day; you’ll learn by practising real situations in a safe environment.
The Five STEPS Housing is delivered as part of the STEPS Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program and helps you build your everyday reading, writing, numeracy, listening and speaking skills to help you feel confident, capable and ready for independent living.
The Five STEPS Housing Program is for people who want to maximise their chances of getting—and keeping—a rental home in a competitive market.
This includes school leavers, families, people receiving housing supports, and anyone in the community who is in the market for renting a home.
Trying to lock in your first rental can be overwhelming. You might not know what landlords are looking for, what your rights are, or how to make yourself stand out.
The Five STEPS Housing helps you understand how renting works and what it takes to be a strong tenant. On completion of the program, you will understand what is required when renting and how to look after a home, and you’ll have the confidence to navigate inspections and have conversations with landlords, and much more.
No rental experience needed! You will be supported by our team through the whole course and learning is personalised to you and your goals.
Even if you’ve rented before, the rental market is only getting tougher. Many people miss out because of small mistakes – but you can learn how to come out on top.
The Five STEPS Housing helps you strengthen your tenancy skills so you can stand out as a reliable tenant. Uncover practical ways to take care of your home, manage inspections, and improve your chances of keeping your bond and securing your next rental.
If you’re supporting people to secure or maintain a rental home, you understand there are many barriers that can make this process challenging.
Referring your clients to our Five STEPS Housing Program will help provide them with practical skills through structured, hands-on training to build key foundational tenancy knowledge and confidence. Your clients will be supported throughout the program with a personalised approach to meet your needs and work toward their goals.
We can also deliver the Five STEPS Housing sessions on-site for housing support providers, community organisations, and similar groups.
