Support to live on your terms

STEPS Individualised Living Options (ILO) is an NDIS-funded support that helps you design the assistance you need to live in a home of your choice.

We’re here to help you find more flexibility, independence and control in your home life.

What Individualised Living Options offers

Individualised Living Options (ILO) is for people who want a living arrangement designed around them and their disabilities, rather than fitting into a set housing model.

With STEPS ILO, you choose your home, and we help you design the supports that make it work for you. This could mean living on your own, with housemates or in a host arrangement, depending on what suits you best.

STEPS will help make the process clear, guided and personalised to support you in feeling confident exploring your options and planning for your future.

The STEPS Individualised Living Options journey

Choosing how and where to live can feel overwhelming. We make the ILO process clear and manageable by breaking it into simple stages, guided by your goals and pace.

Some people move through every stage, while others may only need support with a specific part of the ILO journey. Whatever you need, we’re here to support you.

Phase 1

Exploring your options

We get to know you and your goals, routines and support needs. From there, we explore what living arrangements may suit you.

Phase 2

Designing your support

We design a personalised ILO support model around the home you choose, working with your support system along the way.

Phase 2

Putting supports in place

We regularly review your support to ensure your living arrangement continues to work for you well into the future.

Is Individualised Living Options right for you?

ILO may be suitable if you are:

  • An adult NDIS participant seeking more independence
  • Looking for an alternative to group living or the family home
  • Wanting a living arrangement designed around your routines and goals
  • Planning ahead for long term living stability

ILO isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. If you are unsure whether it’s the right option for you, our team is here to help you explore your options and talk through what support may suit you best.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Individualised Living Options (ILO)?

ILO is an NDIS-funded support that helps you design the assistance you need to live in a home of your choice. It focuses on creating a personalised support model around your goals, routines and needs, rather than fitting into a set housing arrangement.

ILO may suit adult NDIS participants who want more independence and flexibility in how they live. It can support people living on their own, with housemates or in a host arrangement, depending on individual preferences or specific support needs.

No. ILO does not fund the home itself. Rather, it funds the design of your support model around the home you choose to live in, helping you access the right support to live more independently.

ILO Exploration and Design is funded through the NDIS. This funding covers the time and expertise needed to explore options, design your support model and guide you through the process.

No, ILO and SIL are different types of NDIS supports. SIL usually involves shared living with on-site support, while ILO focuses on designing a personalised support arrangement that offers more flexibility and choice. Our team can help explain the differences and explore what may suit you best.

Not at all. Many people begin ILO without a clear plan. Our role is to help you explore your options, understand what’s possible and make decisions at your own pace.

You will be supported by a dedicated Housing/ILO Coordinator who works with you, your family and your support network from exploration through to implementation and review.

Yes. With your consent, we encourage families, carers and support networks to be involved in the process to ensure your living arrangement is safe and aligned with your goals.

ILO is not the right option for everyone, and that’s okay. If it isn’t the best option for you and your goals, our team will help you explore alternative supports and pathways.

The first step is simply having a conversation. Contact our friendly team and we will help you work through the process. You will talk to a STEPS Community Support team member about your goals, NDIS plans and what support may be available to you.
