Rainy weather couldn’t dampen the spirit of the STEPS Social Coast Group, who meet every Friday to enjoy fishing, sailing, swimming and the best of the Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
When relentless rain rolled in one week, the group refused to let it wash away their enthusiasm. Instead, they embraced a backup outing that turned out to be just as rewarding as their usual waterfront adventures.
The group headed to the Caloundra Aquatic Centre, where they spent the morning splashing in the pools and enjoying the warm comfort of the heated facilities. What began as plan B quickly became a highlight of the group’s time together, with participants relaxing, laughing and making the most of the chance to swim and stay active despite the weather.
The day offered a particularly meaningful moment for participant Steph, who was thrilled to discover that the pool is fully wheelchair accessible. Steph shared that she can’t wait to return on her own someday soon, knowing she has access to an inclusive community space where she feels welcome and supported.
Although the outing was originally a wet-weather alternative, it ended up offering valuable opportunities for participants to explore more of the Sunshine Coast, practice navigating public places and discover new activities they can enjoy both socially and independently.
