Volunteering with STEPS Garden Centre

STEPS Garden Centre is a not-for-profit nursery in Caloundra for Sunshine Coast gardeners, open to the public 8:30am-4:30pm seven days a week (excluding some public holidays).

We are a unique retail outlet that sells high-quality plants and gardening supplies and offers engaging workshops for green thumbs. All profits support young people with a disability and autism on their journeys to brighter futures filled with independence.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our STEPS Garden Centre team and assist with day-to-day tasks in the nursery.

Volunteer roles may include:

  • Opening or closing the nursery
  • Watering and weeding plants
  • Washing, sorting, and stacking pots
  • Fertilising, mulching, and general plant care
  • Organising and moving stock
  • Serving customers and handling transactions
  • Keeping the nursery tidy and safe

Role requirements

  • Ensure guests receive excellent service
  • Be willing to learn from others and support team members
  • Be honest, reliable and professional
  • Work in a dynamic retail environment
  • Be able to perform physical tasks, including extended periods of standing and lifting and carrying heavy objects

All volunteer applicants must be aged 18 and over, and successfully obtain an NDIS Worker Screening and Blue Card. STEPS will organise these screenings and there will be no out-of-pocket expenses.

Horticulture and/or retail experience is desirable but not required; we provide all necessary training to volunteers.
