Volunteering with STEPS Café on George

STEPS Café on George is a non-profit café located in the heart of Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, open to the public 8am-2pm Monday-Friday (excluding public holidays). Ask any locals in the know and they’ll tell you we’re a true hidden gem, with delicious food and drinks in support of a great cause: supporting young people with a disability and autism on their journeys to brighter futures filled with independence. We’re looking for Front of House and Back of House volunteers to help our café team with day-to-day tasks.

Volunteer roles may include:

  • Providing friendly customer service with a warm smile
  • Taking orders and handling transactions
  • Brewing coffees, teas, and other drinks
  • Preparing food for service
  • Keeping the kitchen and cafe clean
  • Supporting students with their hospitality training
  • Assisting the Café and Kitchen teams

Role requirements

  • Ensure guests receive excellent service
  • Work alongside young adults with a disability and autism
  • Be willing to learn from others and support team members
  • Be honest, reliable and professional
  • Work in a busy and dynamic hospitality environment

All volunteer applicants must be aged 18 and over, and successfully obtain an NDIS Worker Screening and Blue Card.

STEPS will organise these screenings and there will be no out-of-pocket expenses. Hospitality, barista, and/or kitchen experience is desirable but not required; we provide all necessary training to volunteers.
