Your Sunshine Coast summer gardening guide

Water smarter, hot harder

In summer, you should focus on watering deeply and early in the day. Aim to water your garden before 9am to reduce evaporation and give your plants a chance to absorb the moisture before the day heats up.

Deep but infrequent watering encourages stronger root systems that seek out moisture from below the surface. For an extra hydration boost, add a splash of seaweed solution like Maxicrop Seaweed to your watering can, which helps build their resilience to heat stress. Find Maxicrop Seaweed and other plant care products in store today!

Mulch like a pro

A thick layer of mulch (7-10cm) is one of the best things you can do for your garden in the summertime. It keeps soil temperatures stable, conserves moisture, blocks weeds, and protects roots from the harsh sun. Just be sure to give your stems some space and leave a gap around the base of the plant.

Our go-to is Rocky Point mulch: high-quality, Aussie made, and available in a range of colours and textures. You can get 10% off all mulch every Sunday in January as part of our Sunday Special discounts!
