Veterans’ Health Week: The importance of reconnecting

In a time of increasing social disconnect, those who were already vulnerable to isolation are having an especially difficult time.

As we move into Veterans’ Health Week, our focus shifts to the challenges and barriers that returned service men and women have when trying to reintegrate with society. Whether this is mental or physical disconnect, reaching out to those who may be isolated in the veteran community is of paramount importance.

This year’s theme is “Social Connection”, and events will be held from Saturday the 24th of October until Sunday the 1st of November to highlight these issues.

One of the largest barriers to reintegration and connection can be the transition from service to everyday employment, and with the current job shortage, the process can become overwhelming.

STEPS is excited to offer its support through its new Young Veterans Support Program. A service specialised for veterans aged between 19 – 29 years old who are looking for work, the program offers tailored and FREE job search support so that veterans can find a job that they love.

The program’s consultants are experienced in providing employment support for young, returned service men and women and can assist in finding desirable, job ready assets.

Whether it is assistance identifying career pathways, helping to write an eye-catching resume, or helping with interview techniques, STEPS’ Young Veterans Program is here to help.
