A group of determined STEPS Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) clients in Darwin have celebrated a major milestone, graduating from the employment-focused Ready for Work course.
Over ten weeks, the clients developed essential job readiness skills and gained hands-on work experience, helping them take confident steps towards employment and a future full of opportunity in Australia.
The Ready for Work course, part of the government’s Settlement Language Pathways to Employment and Training (SLPET) program, equips migrants and refugees with practical tools to succeed in the workplace. The course is designed to break down barriers and open new doors, helping clients organise and complete up to 40 hours of work experience while developing skills for finding and retaining a job.
STEPS Casuarina Business Manager Chris Garth praised the graduates’ resilience and growth.
“To see all of you come in for your first day, not knowing what was going to happen, to now walking out of here having experience in the workplace in Australia – it is people like you that give me joy and make me want to come to work every day to support you and your efforts,” Chris said.
AMEP Teacher Vijay Daniels echoed Chris’ sentiment, highlighting the courage and commitment shown by each and every client.
“Completing your work place experience is no small achievement and you should be deeply proud,” he said. “The certificate you receive today represents resilience, growth and a fresh beginning.”
