Young people aged 15-19 who have left school or become disengaged now have a new opportunity to develop their confidence and skills for the future at no cost thanks to the expansion of STEPS’ Get Set for Work Program to Maroochydore, Hervey Bay, and Townsville.

Designed specifically for young people who struggle in traditional education environments, STEPS’ program takes a different approach: practical and personalised learning experiences that meet participants where they’re at.

Participants work toward the FSK20119 Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways and also receive transport and food assistance, take part in employer site visits and excursions, and learn from mentors and guest speakers.

The program has already made an impact in Bundaberg, Caloundra and Gympie. Participants who once felt disconnected from education have rediscovered their motivation and stepped confidently toward employment or further study.

STEPS CEO Cassie Stanley said that the program has supported almost 100 young people, helping them transition into employment, return to school or seek further training.

“We’ve seen firsthand how this program helps young people reconnect with learning, develop skills for the real world and develop confidence,” Ms Stanley said.

“This is what STEPS is all about; providing opportunity and supporting people in our community to recognise their potential and reach their goals.”

The Townsville expansion is part of a broader rollout, with Get Set for Work also launching in Maroochydore and Hervey Bay.

Applications are now open. To find out more or register your interest, visit the STEPS Get Set for Work webpage or call 1800 312 742.

This project is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government. Career Start supports Queensland job seekers to start their career or move into more skilled roles or full-time employment.
