Preparing for a career in care

Lorraine joined the STEPS Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program in Cairns ready to make a change. She wanted to pursue a career that allows her to support others, and the STEPS SEE Program gave her the foundational skills and experience she needed.

She started by building her digital literacy skills, and that progress gave her the confidence to take the next step: enrolling in the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support.

Hard work and a helping hand

Lorraine got stuck into the work and as the course progressed, she became someone her peers could count on for support.

Those connections blossomed into genuine friendships and throughout her studies, Lorraine became a valued part of her classmates’ learning journeys.

Her Trainer is incredibly proud of her work ethic and progress. “Lorraine is a shining example of what can be achieved through perseverance, strong community support, self-belief, and the dedicated support of her Trainers and Participant Support Officers.”

Hands-on support work

Lorraine brought the same dedication and care to her work placement that she had shown throughout her time in class and has since completed her qualification.

With her Trainers in her corner, Lorraine is now looking for her first role in the sector.

What the STEPS SEE Program made possible

Lorraine’s journey is about more than a qualification. Through the STEPS SEE Program, she grew in confidence, built lasting relationships, and demonstrated to herself what she can achieve.

It’s the kind of transformation STEPS sees across every community it works in: participants gaining the skills and self-belief to create a future with more opportunity and, for Lorraine, meaningful employment.

What’s next for Lorraine

Lorraine is ready to bring her compassion and work ethic to a career dedicated to supporting vulnerable members of her community.

Her Cairns classmates and Trainers are all excited to see what she achieves next.
