With the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) only 18 months away, there are some exciting times ahead as organisations like STEPS and future funding recipients realise the opportunities presented by this new era in disability support.

One of the opportunities STEPS are particularly excited about is the increased capacity provided by the NDIS to assist people with disabilities gain access to employment.

Under the NDIS individuals who are not eligible for the current Disability Employment Services (DES) will have access to funds that can help them reach their career goals.

That means eligible NDIS recipients who may already be employed, are studying full time, or who have been assessed as not being work ready, will now have the opportunity to build their skills, gain experience and increase their financial independence.

The new funding will cover assistance with transport and personal care required to obtain and maintain employment, funding to build skills, support to find work in the individuals chosen field, and assistive devices such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, and personal communication devices.

STEPS will provide expert employment support for those funded under the NDIS along side our current services for people with a disability.  We look forward to helping more Australians achieve their right to employment, and working with individuals to achieve their career aspirations.
