Since joining the STEPS Work Mates team in Caloundra four months ago, Joel has been a job readiness training superstar. He helps our participants identify their strengths, both professionally and personally, and turn those into powerful skills for gaining meaningful employment.
Joel also works closely with the participants to help them develop their confidence and practical knowledge for the workplace, along with finding employment opportunities and bridging the gap between employers and the Work Mates participants.
“I enjoy seeing the impact that this Program has on all my participants,” Joel said. “I find a lot of joy in being a part of that journey to independence and freedom.”
A fun fact about Joel: prior to joining the disability support sector, he was a Personal Trainer and a Marine Technician in the Royal Australian Navy! We are proud to have passionate and dedicated Job Readiness Trainers like Joel in our team.

STEPS Community Support Participant Gill is embracing life with courage and creativity. She’s learning guitar and working towards her dream of playing ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica, despite her memory challenges that require extra care and patience.
With gentle encouragement from her Support Worker Emilio, she’s also engaging in physiotherapy, aqua therapy, and activities to help her emotional wellbeing, like peaceful country drives. Facing an upcoming surgery, Gill says having someone who supports her, truly listens to and understands her has made all the difference. We are proud of her progress towards her goals and would like to thank Emilio for his dedicated support!
