Learning and earning: Three STEPS SEE participants in Cairns celebrate new jobs

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing our participants take big steps towards their goals and reaching their milestones.

In Cairns, three STEPS Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program participants recently achieved something worth celebrating: each secured employment while completing an FSK20119 Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways.

For Wendy, the journey has been about confidence and self-motivation. She worked hard on her digital literacy skills, polished her resume, and is now thriving as a full-time support worker for a private family.

Bradley joined the Cairns SEE Program six months ago and quickly flew through the digital literacy components. His resilience and determination shone through as he stayed positive through countless job applications.

His persistence paid off! Bradley is now working full-time as a cabinet maker for a custom storage solutions business.

For Sven, the SEE Program has been a chance to come out of his shell and improve his interpersonal skills. Now employed as a casual security guard, Sven still visits the Cairns site on his days off to progress his business studies.

STEPS Trainer Tracey Wyer said that these success stories reflect what STEPS is all about: offering a supportive, people-first environment that helps participants reach their goals and change their futures for the better.

“It’s not just about the qualifications,” she said. “It’s about teamwork, resilience, and self-belief. When our participants walk away with a transformed mindset, those achievements soon follow. To see people in our community become more confident in themselves is just so rewarding and heartwarming.”

Wendy and Bradley even returned to the Cairns training room recently to share their exciting employment news, glowing with pride and positivity.

For our SEE Trainers, moments like these can’t be beat. “Seeing participants come back to tell us how far they’ve continued to grow makes you step back and see just how special STEPS is to our community,” Tracey said.

Congratulations to Wendy, Bradley, and Sven!
