Week 3: Grocery savings

This week, we’re focusing on practical ways to lower the cost of your groceries using the SmartSpending platform’s discounts and other tools.

Grocery discounts available through SmartSpending

Below are the grocery-related deals currently available on the SmartSpending platform.

Please make sure to check participating locations before you purchase or use an eGift card, as some providers only allow the use of their cards at participating stores. Fortunately, this can easily be checked on the providers’ websites and mobile apps, all of which we’ve linked below.

Two paper grocery bags filled with fresh produce and baguettes sit in a fruit and vegetable aisle, with apples and cucumbers visible in the foreground.

Coles eGift card

Save 4% on in-store purchases at any Coles Supermarket or Coles Central store. Please note that this card cannot be redeemed when shopping online, at Coles Express or Liquorland.

Only $25, $50, $100, $200 and $500 gift cards are available but can be combined and/or multiplied to suit your spending needs (e.g. $100 + $50 to cover a $150 shop).

Tips:

  • While the Coles gift card is not available to use online, the Coles website can help you track discounted products at your local store.
  • Coles offers several recipes using ingredients you can find in-store.
  • You can sign up for Flybuys and accumulate points, using them for money off future shopping trips and other rewards.

Woolworths

Save 4% on all purchases in-store and online with an eGift card. You can also earn 1.5% cashback on online grocery shopping (4% for a new customer’s first order).

eGift cards can be purchased for any amount, meaning you do not need to purchase multiple gift cards or round up or down to cover your grocery spend.

Tips:

  • Use Everyday Rewards to accumulate points every time you shop, then cash in for discounts at the checkout.
  • Earn a minimum of 1 point for every dollar you spend at these stores. Every 2000 points collected = $10 off a future shop.
  • You can also bank the points until December to get big savings on your Christmas shopping.
  • Subscribe to Everyday Extra to access a 10% discount every month, earn double points on every Woolworths and Big W purchase, and find exclusive deals. It’s $7 a month or $70 for an annual plan, and you can start a 30-day free trial to see if it’s a good fit.
  • Woolworths Everyday Market allows you to add pet products, health and beauty items, electronics and much more to your online shop. SmartSpending gives you a 2% cashback deal on all purchases.
  • You can find recipes on the Woolworths YouTube channel and on their website, using ingredients you can easily find in-store.

IGA eGift card

Save 4% on in-store purchases at participating stores, which you can find by checking the Metcash Gift Cards database.

eGift cards can be purchased for any amount, meaning you do not need to purchase multiple gift cards or round up or down to cover your grocery spend.
