Your Sunshine Coast spring gardening guide

Spring has officially sprung!

As the days grow longer and warmer, your garden is ready to wake up from its winter slumber.

Here are our favourite tips to help your garden thrive throughout the season, courtesy of our amazing STEPS Garden Centre Manager April!

All of these plants and products are available to purchase in-store. We’re open seven days a week from 8:30am to 4:30pm and our friendly team is always here to lend a helping hand.

Wake up your soil

Before you dive into planting, give your garden beds a little TLC.

As the soil warms up, microbial life begins to stir and that’s your cue to enrich and refresh.

Top dress your garden beds and pots with:

  • Rock minerals for added trace nutrients
  • Compost to improve structure and feed plants naturally
  • Mulch to lock in moisture and suppress weeds

This simple trio sets the stage for healthy roots, happy plants and a vibrant garden all spring long.

Cater to pollinators

Did you know your garden can help support bees, butterflies and birds on the move?

Spring is a critical time for pollinators and even the smallest backyard or balcony can become a haven for them.

Plant nectar-rich flowers like:

  • Calendula
  • Marigolds
  • Grevilleas
  • Alyssum
  • Bottlebrushes

These blooms offer pollinators food and shelter, and they’ll reward you with colour, life and more productive veggie patches.

If you want to go a step further, pop in a native bee hotel or sprinkle a seed shaker box filled with wildflowers for an easy pollinator paradise.

Planning a gardening project?

Whether you’re refreshing your garden beds, planting a winter veggie patch or tackling a larger landscaping project, our team is here to help.

Visit STEPS Garden Centre for expert advice, quality plants and everything you need to get the job done right.

Every purchase supports STEPS Pathways College, helping young adults living with a disability and autism develop independence skills for a brighter future.
