Tina first walked through the doors of STEPS Casuarina as a client in the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), eager to improve her English, connect with her community, and explore new opportunities in the Australian workforce.

With a warm smile and strong work ethic, she quickly made an impression on teachers and her peers.

Soon after, Tina enrolled in the Ready for Work SLPET (Settlement Language Pathways to Employment and Training) Program, ready to make a powerful change in her life.

The Ready for Work Program, designed to help migrants and refugees gain language and practical skills for employment, gave Tina the tools and confidence she needed to take the next step.

As part of the program, STEPS assisted Tina with finding and organising a 40-hour placement with Wizard Pharmacy Casuarina. From day one, she embraced the experience with energy and enthusiasm, learning new systems, happily serving customers, and becoming a valued member of the team.

Her placement soon turned into something more. Recognising her dedication and warm connections with customers, Wizard Pharmacy offered Tina permanent part-time employment.

For Jamie Lewis, a STEPS Community Development Officer in Casuarina, Tina’s success is a shining example of what’s possible when education, opportunity and community come together.

“This is what our programs are all about,” Jamie said. “Helping people feel empowered and confident. Tina’s story shows just how much can change when someone is given the right support and when they believe in themselves.”

Congratulations, Tina! The STEPS Casuarina team is proud of you and can’t wait to see where this job takes you.

The next Ready for Work Program begins in September. Do you know someone who could benefit from the AMEP or the Ready for Work SLPET Program?

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
