Jamie's Ministry of Food gives new skills and confidence to STEPS Link In clients

For 5 weeks now there has been a lot of whipping, chopping, stirring – and giggling activity coming from a rather fancy truck parked out at the University of the Sunshine Coast.[su_pullquote align=”right”]“People really came out of their shell and found the sessions both enjoyable and helpful in gaining new skills and knowledge of healthy eating habits”.[/su_pullquote]

The truck, along with its busy residents, is a part of Jamie’s Ministry of Food, a fantastic program set up to help educate people about healthy food and healthy cooking.

Our budding chefs over these last 5 weeks have been our lucky clients at STEPS Link In who thoroughly enjoyed their time learning how to shop, cook and eat healthy.

STEPS Link In Manager Rob Walter said the program was a great success with some really awesome moments.

“People really came out of their shell and found the sessions both enjoyable and helpful in gaining new skills and knowledge of healthy eating habits”.

As Jamie’s Ministry of Food mobile kitchen continues to work its way around the country, STEPS are busily preparing for the launch of their own cooking skills classes to be held at their George Street campus kitchen in Caloundra.

Like Jamie’s Ministry of Food, STEPS cooking classes will include educating students on good nutrition and food preparation with a focus on healthy minds and bodies.

Managing Director for STEPS Group Australia Carmel Crouch said she hopes the new program will inspire STEPS clients and individuals in the community to make better food choices.

“Good diet is so important to physical and mental well being. By showing others how to cook nutritious and tasty food we can really help improve the overall health of our community”.
