Volunteers get together
It takes a special person to give time and energy freely for the benefit others and we are lucky to have many wonderful volunteers who work with us and do just that.
From Carer mentors in Bundaberg, volunteer workers at the Caloundra Recycle Centre and personal mentors who are the backbone of our By Your Side mentoring program on the Sunshine Coast and in Townsville, these special people are an important part of the STEPS family.
David (pictured far right) is the program coordinator for STEPS By your side Mentoring program and Debbie (pictured far left) is our National Disability Coordination Officer for Southern Queensland. Together they played host to a small group of volunteers who got together at our Caloundra Campus for some morning tea, games, team building exercises and to swap stories and have a bit of fun.
“It was a way to thank the mentors and volunteers for taking time out of their busy schedules to get involved” Debbie said, “we want them to know they are valued”.
Australia currently has six-million people volunteering, and it is estimated that the number of volunteers in Australia doubled from 1995 – 2000. If you would like to know more about becoming a volunteer or mentor, go to the Get Involved section of our website
