The STEPS Equity Employer Group rewards and acknowledges employers who provide opportunities to people with disabilities.


The reasons are clear. STEPS’ vision is to enhance our communities. Communities that are diverse, inclusive and encourage equity are healthy communities; and the business sector plays an important role.


Many employers who have consistently employed or worked with people with a disability already know the many benefits, but STEPS believes these employers also need to be recognised.


Through the Equity Employer Group, STEPS seeks to give public recognition to such organisations, and at the same time promote the cause of empowering all people within society to maximise their potential.


Becoming an Equity Employer will:

  • Give you the opportunity to promote your organisation/business as being a leader in social inclusion
  • Allow unlimited use of “Equity Employer” logo on all marketing materials and on premises
  • Give you opportunities to attend networking functions with other Equity Employers
  • Open possibilities of receiving media coverage associated with the Equity Employer brand, and events held to promote the STEPS Equity Employer Group.

 


 

Equity Employer Group membership criteria

 

STEPS Employer Equity Group Standard Membership

Standard Membership

 

To achieve membership of the STEPS Equity Employer Group, employers must currently employ one or more people with a disability and/or provide work experience opportunities, mentoring programs, or transition to employment programs for school leavers with disabilities.

 
STEPS Employer Equity Group Gold Membership

Gold Membership

 

To achieve Gold Membership of the STEPS Equity Group, employers must have 10% or more of employees registered as having a disability, and/or demonstrate significant commitment over time to providing opportunities for people with disabilities.

Social inclusion


STEPS Equity Employer group supports the Federal Government’s Social Inclusion priority of working to create equal and sustainable employment opportunities, and build understanding and support in the community. ( www.socialinclusion.gov.au).

 

STEPS Equity Employers will become synonymous with social inclusion and their support for people with a disability through providing one or more of the following:

  • Work experience
  • The Employment Consultant will give the client on or off-the-job training to ensure minimum interruption to the workplace.
  • Mentoring programs
  • Transition to employment programs for school leavers.
